This is the offical movie trailer for Skyfall, this is one of the ways the movie has been advertised, this trailer can be found through many parts of the media industry, e.g: Youtube, tv adverts and inbetween cinema trailers. Skyfall aslo had its own Facebook and Twitter pages allowing people on these social netwokring sites to access the trailer and other information about the movie. There is also an offical skyfall website for people without social networking sites to access news about the movie and the trailer, the offical website would also allow you to book cinema tickets to watch the movie.
(this is a picture i took of a London bus advertising Skyfall)

Adele was approached to be the artist to sing the theme song of Skyfall. The song she came up with was released on the 5th of October, the song is now available on itunes for only 99p, this is very cheap in comparison with other singles including Adele’s other songs that are available on itunes, the positive for the song being able to purchase at such a low price is that a lot of people are likely to buy the single which will make them aware of the movie and will encourage them to watch it. The song was quickly made famous and reached number 1 in the UK and number 8 in the states. Adele is currently at her peak in her career and having her sing the theme tune is great publicity for Skyfall. This video on youtube has currently got 61,186,863 and is currently increasing.

Editing our Swede

We used Final Cut Pro to edit our swede. We watched through all of our footage back and had to choose the best clips and put them together to make our final swede. To edit we had to be very careful and precise and even the slightest error can make a film look bad. After we finished editing our swede we added background music we chose from YouTube to add to the tension of our horror. These photo grabs above display our edits and cuts we used in Final Cut Pro.

Skyfall Research

Skyfall is the 23rd James Bond film made. It was directed by Sam Mendes (director of Jarhead, American Beauty) The film premiered on the 23rd of October at the Royal Albert Hall. The films release was on the same day of the 50th anniversary of the James Bond movies. At first MGM were experiencing financial issues with funding for Skyfall but they didn't stop the movie being made. The film has an estimated budget of $150 million and has since made back approximately $96,600,000 back. A third of this is supposedly came solely from product placement deals. Filming began in November 2011 and took place in the UK, China and Turkey.

                                                                                         (Trailer for Skyfall)
The film was advertised through many different outlets such as trailers, billboards, etc. This gave the film an incredible amount of exposure setting it up to make the film the UK's second highest weekend debut ever behind Harry Potter and the Deathly Hollows part 2. The Skyfall trailer which aired on ITV, Film 4, NBC and many other channels also contributing into the excellent Marketing behind the film. The trailer was also uploaded onto YouTube, where it has nearly 11 million views. Skyfall also has a Twitter and Facebook page, using social networking as a marketing tool. There is also a website for Skyfall, allowing people without Twitter and Facebook to access to videos, downloads and news from the set.

                                                                                             (Skyfall billboard)
The film premiered at Royal Albert hall on the 23rd of October. A live stream was made available on the YouTube allowing everyone with internet access to watch the happenings. It was also announced that the Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall would attend the premiere. This created more buzz around the film and got more people talking about it.

                                                                                             (Adele - Skyfall)
Adele was approached to write and perform the theme song for the film. She recorded and wrote this song with her regular collaborator Paul Epworth. The song was released on the 5th of October at 0:07 and is being sold for 99p. The fact that the song is also quite cheap in terms of how much singles are sold for, this means more people will buy the song and more people will be aware of the film. The song reached to number 1 in the UK and number 8 in the US and almost 50 million views on YouTube. Adele is currently at her peak in her career and having her sing the theme tune is great publicity for Skyfall.

Creating an Ad campaign - Twitter

Facebook and Twitter are currently the most popular social networking websites in the world. Facebook having over 1 billion users worldwide and Twitter having over 500 million. Social networking is a crucial part of marketing in present time. Advertisement online is important as everything is now going online and more and more people are using the internet everyday. It can really help determine whether a movie does well or not. Due to this we made both a Facebook and Twitter page to boost our swedes YouTube views.

Planning for our own Swede

We began planning our swede by discussing what Films would be good to recreate. We went back and forth with ideas of films. All of us came to the agreement of Scream as we had all seen the film before and were relatively familiar with it. Together we watched clips from the original movie and decided that the opening scene would be easiest to recreate as it is simple and very iconic.

We then started to allocate the roles our group would fulfill. Layla was the only blonde in our group, so we immediately thought the lead would be an appropriate role for her and she was happy in taking this role. Myself and Emma wanted to direct and do the camera work, so Dionne took the role of Ghost Face. I contributed the voice for Ghost Face.

We noticed that the popcorn is quite a important prop to the opening scene of Scream so we bought some, we then improvised and used a cardboard box as a frying pan. We decided to make a mask for Dionne out of paper and Emma drew on it. The costume we gave Dionne to wear for Ghost Face was this paper mask and a black bin liner.

The setting of the opening scene starts with Drew Barrymore in the kitchen making some popcorn. Luckily we were able to film in a kitchen in the college. We later filmed in a corridor in the college. There is screaming in the film so we had to ask the teachers around the area we were filming if we could shoot Layla doing so. We also had to have a time-keeper as we only had that lesson to film our swede.

Creating an Ad campaign - Poster

This is the poster I made for our swede of Scream. I used the original poster as inspiration for this photo. I used paint for add red lipstick to the black and white photo.

Skyfall Research

Skyfall is the 23rd James Bond film from MGM, Columbia Pictures and Sony Pictures Entertainment. Although initially having financial difficulties, the film has an estimated budget of $150 million (approximately £93million) and a third of this is reported to have come from product placement deals. I have found that some of the advertisements, including those advertising these products, are shown on television after 9pm on channels such as Sky Atlantic and Channel 4.
The companies that are partners with the film include OPI, VisitBritain, Sony, Omega, Coca-Cola Zero and Heineken. This information can be found on Skyfall’s official website. The website also includes images, videos and downloads.

These adverts can also be accessed on Youtube which is another way for Skyfall to gain a larger audience. The Youtube account also shows video clips from the film and past James Bond films. So far the ‘jamesbond007’ account has 14,722 subscribers and over 13,000,000 video views.

Youtube was also used to air the première of Skyfall live (shown here) this gave everyone with internet the chance to see many interviews with the cast and production team. The première  which was held at the Royal Albert Hall, was also on the date of the 50th anniversary of the very 1st James Bond movie which helped to gain a lot more press, as well as this, producers Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli announced that the Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall would be attending the première.

Youtube is also a great platform to advertise the soundtrack of the film which is sung by multi-award winning singer, Adele. The soundtrack can easily be found on Youtube in the music section along with the most viewed songs of the week.
The song can also be found on iTunes and costs 99p. The song, which was first premièred on Adele's website, managed to top the iTunes chart within 10 hours of release.
The internet also promotes the film on various news websites that share the latest information about the film. Some of the websites are shown below.
Among these websites are some that promote the film through competitions, they offer a chance to win tickets to the premiere, win a holiday abroad and various different merchandise. The slideshow below shows some of these websites.
aa25294's Skyfall Comps album on Photobucket
Some of the merchandise promoting Skyfall include a fragrance, USB stick, special edition Sony laptops, soundtrack and the ‘Bond on set: filming Skyfall’ book. The previous James Bond films are also on stands in many stores that highlight the 50th anniversary of them. This draws attention to the new release while people are grocery shopping.
Skyfall has also be advertised in newspaper, below are some examples of advertisement in the week before the release of the film. They include cast interviews and information on the premiere. Here are some examples of this:
aa25294's Newspaper album on Photobucket

I have found many photo billboards around London with advertisements of Skyfall, they also appear on the side of buses and at bus stops. Some of the images of these are shown below.

The film itself was released on Friday 26th October and is available to watch in many cinemas including; ODEON, Cineworld, Vue and independent cinemas. In some UK cinemas, the film was prepared to be shown over 30 times in one day; almost 100 times in the opening weekend.

Research on Swedes

The dark Knight Sweded

Edward Scissorhands Sweded

Willy Wonka and The Chocolate Factory

These swedes gave me inspiration for our swede because each of these use an impressive range of props to replicate the original film. I also enjoyed them, because each of these stick to many of the original scenes from the original films, however they add elements of comedy which make them interesting and entertaining to watch. Many of the costumes designed and worn in these swedes effectively portray the character they are mimicking.

Research on Production, Distribution, Marketing and Exhibition

FILM INDUSTRY

Production: This is the process of making a film. It involves an initial story, idea, or commission, through scriptwriting, casting, shooting, editing, and screening the finished product before an audience that may result in a film release and exhibition.

Distribution: The intermediary between production and exhibition and involves the following functions: sales, that is, the securing of rental contracts for specific play dates; advertising directed to theatres through trade publications and to filmgoers through the print and electronic media; the physical delivery of prints to theatres, and the method of release.

Marketing: This is the process of communicating the value of a product or service to customers. Every film has to have a marketing plan: Who what when where how, Strategies to motivate audiences interest/awareness and taking advantage of the Media, publicity, promotions and the internet. Examples of how marketing is used in the Film industry are: Trailers, Interviews, Billboards, Newspaper adverts, related Merchandise.

Exhibition: This is the retail branch of the film industry. It involves not the production or the distribution of motion pictures, but their public screening, usually for paying customers in a site devoted to such screenings. What the exhibitor sells is the experience of a film (and, frequently, concessions like soft drinks and popcorn) because exhibitors to some extent control how films are programmed, promoted, and presented to the public, they have considerable influence over the box-office success and, more importantly, the reception of films.

Our final Swede

This is our final swede which we also uploaded to YouTube so that it was viewable to our target audience. We posted links to the Youtube page on our Twitter and Facebook accounts which helped to raise the amount of views we recieved, so far the swede has over 115 views and 2 'likes'.

Planning/making our swede.

To plan our swede, we discussed as a group which films we all knew of and could use. We came to the agreement on 'Scream'. We then watched clips from the film and decided that we thought the opening scene would work best. We then watched the clip again and focused on the dialogue so we could ensure that we included all the main lines between ghost face and Casey Becker.

For props we agreed that the popcorn would be an imortant part and would help to set the scene. We brought this ourselfs and used a cardboard box as a frying pan. We made the scream mask ourself with paper and maker pens using images from google as a guideline of how it should look. We also drew a paper knife. For ghost face's custome, we used plastic bin liners and added wholes for Dionne's arms. Finally we used our own mobile phones for the converstation between Dionne and Layla.

Our actors for the swede were Layla and Dionne and me and Yasser were the directors, Yasser also was the voice of ghost face. We came to this agreement as we thought that Layla could fulfil the stereotypical role of a blonde and Dionne was happy to be ghost face, although there was some difficulty while running with the mask on so we had to be aware of health and safety issues.

Fortunately, we had the opportunity to use the lower ground kitchen in college for our swede, this was perfect as the opening scene to Scream was in the kitchen of a house. We used the corridors for the running scene and had to inform the nearby teachers that Layla would be screaming, this ensured we did not disrupt their classes.

We had to be aware of the fact that we only had one lesson to complete the filming, we worked well as a team as we managed to get all the shots we needed. Although our timekeeping skills were good, we could have added a few more shots at the end of the scene if we had more time.

Creating an Ad campaign - Interview

This is a video we made using the flip cam to help with marketing our swede. We researched questions that were asked on Youtube interviews and then created a rough script using questions we thought were appropriate for our swede. This short interview was posted on Facebook and Twitter to help to promote our swede.

Editing our Swede.

Above is a screen grab of editing our swede using Final Cut Pro, we had to chose between a variety of shots to find the best ones and then join the different cuts together, we also had to add music from Youtube during editing. You can also add effects during the editing process, however, we chose not to add effects (this is shown in the second image). The final image shows how the different shots were edited to form a seamless sequence, we done this by using match cuts.

Creating an Ad campaign - Twitter

Twitter is a social networking site that has over 517 million active users worldwide, the majority of its users are aged 18-25 years. This is extremely important for advertising our swede as this is the age group that we aimed to reach.

I used twitter to post our pictures we use for our marketing, I also posted links to our other social networking site as well as the interview and final swede.

The Twitter account gained 6+ followers in a few weeks which may have helped to gain views for the video itself, which was posted on Youtube, this makes it clear that social networking is a vital aspect in ad campaigns as they help to reach a wider audience and raise awareness of the movie quickly.

On the left is an example of the pictures that I tweeted on our swede's Twitter account, it is a poster used as part of our ad campaign. Many twitter accounts of movies post behind the scene pictures and the posters too.

These are some of the tweets from our Twitter account, I used them to build anticipation for those following the account.

This is an how the Twitter account appears to anyone who views the page, I added an icon and background image to make the page more aesthetically pleasing.

Creating an Ad campaign - Poster

Here is a poster I made using Photoshop as part of our ad campaign for our swede. I used inspiration from the original film poster which includes a similar layout and image. The font used it also the same as the fonts from the sequels of Scream.

Researching Swedes

 The Dark Knight Spoof Sweded

This is a swede for the Warner Bro's movie 'The Dark Knight'. This helped me to understand the concept of a swede and gave me ideas of what we could use in our own swede. I liked the use of props in this swede and the customes were extremely realistic. The use of sound also showed that it can be used to build tension and would be useful to add to our sweded during editing. This swede also used a variety of shot types which reminded me that we have to vary our camera angles. I liked the fact that this swede included all of the important scenes from the film, however, in our group's swede we eventually decided to use just the opening scene rather than a variety of clips.

Mean Girls Sweded

This is a swede of the movie 'Mean Girl's'. I thought that the swede seemed to drag on for a long period of time which meant it became a little boring at times. This made me think that in our own swede we had to make sure that the audience would remain engaged in it. However, I liked the use of accents in the swede, this gave me the idea that if necassary we could use accents in our swede; we did this for the character of 'scream'.

Researching Swedes

Dark Knight Swede

When researching swedes I looked at this swede of the Dark Knight. I thought it was really creative and I liked the background music that they used/made. They do a very good job at showcasing the main events of the movie in just under 3 minutes. I thought it was very humorous in places and quite light hearted, that's why I enjoyed this swede.
click this link to watch the first swede i watched for my research
-This is the first swede i watched to get a rough idea of what a swede is overall, and how you are meant to preform a swede. From this i fount out that it is very cheap and home made looking.

click this link to watch the second swede i watched for my research
-I looked at this swede after our group decided to make a swede on "scream" to get a few ideas on what to do. From this i got the idea to have very easy props in my swede and make it as easy as it can be.

HOMEWORK
PRODUCTION:
1. Financing - this is the first stage where the directors find investors for the movie and sorts out budget      forcasting

Production, Distribution and Exhibition - Emma Tovey

We had to find out about production, distribution, marketing and exhibition (exchange) in the film industry.

Above are the images of the work I completed, to summarise what I found;
During pre-production of a film, the idea is developed and preparations for filming are made. The film itself is shot during production and is edited during post-production.
The distribution of a film is the process in which a film is made viewable to the audience, for example, by being released into a cinema.
Marketing of films are ways in which the film is promoted in order to gain a larger audience and a greater awareness of the film, this is to ensure that the film makes money.
The final process is exhibition, these are the ways in which the film is broadcasted (including DVD, TV and the use of internet).

I also looked into the making of 'Batman Begins' as a way of understanding the processes more clearly. The information that I found is shown above.
